CHOCOLATE SOUR CREAM SCONESrecipe choc scone3 1728 x 1152 300x200 Chocolate Sour Cream Scones

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

2 tsp. baking powder

3/4 tsp. baking soda

1/8 tsp. salt

1/2 cup cold butter

1 egg yolk, beaten

8  oz./1 cup sour cream

1/2 cup chocolate chip, regular or miniature

MIX together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large bowl. Cut in cold butter with a pastry cutter or two knives. Add beaten egg yolk and sour cream to the mix. Add chocolate chips and stir until soft. Do not overmix. (I had to add a few tablespoons of milk to get the dry ingredients to come together). Spoon dough, about 2 tablespoons (I used a heaped soup spoon) for each scone onto a parchment lined baking sheet. (I sprinkled some turbinado raw sugar on top of each scone before baking to give that bit of crunch when biting into the tender scone). Makes about 20 scones.

BAKE at 375 F (190 C) for 10-12 minutes. Cool on rack or serve warm and enjoy with your favourite cup of tea. In the picture, I am having a cup of Happy Valley Darjeeling with a friend, served in my favourite china cups.
